Chris Landry has held his seat on the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury for as long as Randy Roach has been mayor. And he said for the most part, Roach has left the city in good financial shape. So he looks forward to more of the same in that department.

"Mayor Roach is careful as he does things and he wants to make sure things are done right. And we owe that to the citizens," he said.

But Landry wants to see changes in how fast the city gets things done.

"But they want to see it. They want to see it soon," he said.

And, of course, he's referring to the long, drawn-out process of proposal after proposal for lakefront development. So, Landry is making a promise.

"Within 45 days of me taking office, we will act on a proposal on the lakefront. It will happen. I promise you," he said.

Through the years, there's been debate as to whether the old Harrah's garage should stay or go.

"In my opinion, you do not put a parking garage on that type of property on the lakefront. That is just a bad use of that piece of property," he said.

With so much talk about downtown and the lakefront, it seems that north Lake Charles gets lost in the shuffle.

"One part of my platform, it addresses north Lake Charles. And the redevelopment of north Lake Charles is extremely important," he said.

"Right now, there's no reason for them to stop, unless they want to go to Popeye's and that's sad," Landry.

He promises to focus a lot of attention on bringing these two sides of the city together. And making it one for the benefit of all.

"Yeah, we all refer to it as north Lake Charles. south Lake Charles. It's Lake Charles. And if we have a problem in one area, it's all our problem, no matter where you live. And you have to have that attitude," he said.
