A debate in the town of Welsh about whether the sale of alcohol should be limited to certain hours.
Right now, the town's alcohol beverage ordinance has no guidelines to prohibit the sale of liquor before or after a specific time.
That means bars like this one in welsh can stay open as late as they want. Mayor Carolyn Louviere thought it might be a good idea to amend the ordinance and have a specific closing time as a way to improve public safely and reduce litter outside one local bar.
However, that idea was quickly shut down at Tuesday's town council meeting.
Several folks in the audience expressed their opposition, as did Alderman Colby Perry, who says there are no stats to indicate closing bars early would have any impact on public safety.
Perry stated: “It makes no sense to make a widespread ordinance in the town of Welsh affecting all establishments when there was only a problem at one location.
So for now, bars in Welsh will continue to stay open as long as they want.
