VINTON, LA (KPLC) -

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating its first homicide this year.

It happened at a mobile home at 1751 La. 109 South in Vinton.

"A lady was running across the yard screaming, hollering and she got about halfway across the yard and I heard three gunshots," said James Planchard, manager of T&H Car Care.

Planchard witnessed what he later realized was a homicide - right across the street from his work.

"Out here we're in the country. Gunshots are normal so I didn't really freak out at first, then cops started showing up," said Planchard.

"We do have a male subject that's been shot and killed," said Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

Mancuso said they were dispatched to the scene around 5 p.m. regarding shots fired.

"The victim is deceased outside the residence but I think it possibly could have started inside the residence," said Sheriff Mancuso.

Mancuso said they detained two people for questioning - a male and female - one of them a resident at that address.

"I feel confident in saying one of them is the shooter," said Mancuso, adding it will come down to the evidence. "We do have some of the actual shooting and shots being heard on the 911 tapes so that's going to help us in our investigation. I believe we're gonna have the weapon, I think we're gonna have a lot of evidence. It's just sort of sorting through now the stories and what's going on here."

Mancuso said they're not yet releasing the identity of the deceased pending notification of kin.

No one else was injured during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
