April is National Fair Housing Month and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury is making sure residents and realtors alike are armed with the proper tools to fight discrimination.
Wednesday's Fair Housing workshop and luncheon featured speakers there to inform the community about their rights as renters and home buyers.
There were different classes for the community and realtors touching on subjects like disabilities, race, religion, sex and even family status discrimination.
"A lot of people don't know the rules they don't understand what is their possibilities of owning a home renting a home where can i live where can i not live but that is a faux pas to me because the community is an open community and that is what fair housing is all about," said Cybe Pettit, the CEO of SWLA Realtor's Association.
