A DeQuincy woman was killed in a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler on La. 12 Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Susan Kay Marcantel, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Sgt. James Anderson, state police Troop D spokesman.

Kay was driving her 2002 Ford Explorer east on La. 12 when she crossed the center line and crashed into a westbound 18-wheeler, driven by Wilburn Sellers, 46, of Longville, Anderson said. The crash happened just after 6 a.m., seven-and-a-half miles east of DeQuincy.

Sellers was not injured.  Both drivers were wearing a seat belt.

Anderson said a saddlebag fuel tank on the 18-wheeler ruptured, spilling diesel. Louisiana State Police Transportation Safety Services Section Troopers responded to the scene, then a private contractor cleaned up the spill.
