Three indicted by grand jury in connection with Tulip Street shootings

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A grand jury handed down indictments on Thursday for the suspects accused in the April 6 shooting on Tulip Street in Lake Charles, which left one person dead and three others injured.

Cody Lastrapes, 22, of Lake Charles, was killed in the shooting.

Deon T. Demoruelle, 19, of Lake Charles, was indicted on two counts of illegal use of weapons in the commission of a crime of violence, and one count of obstruction of justice, according to Patsy Dugas, public information officer for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney's Office.

J’Kristopher D. Scott, 19, of Lake Charles was indicted on one count of second-degree murder, and three counts of attempted second-degree murder.

A 16-year-old minor from Lake Charles was also indicted on one count of second-degree murder, and three counts of attempted second-degree murder.

The minor is currently being held at the Calcasieu Parish Juvenile Detention Center, but will be transferred to the Calcasieu Correctional Center since he will be tried as an adult. The remaining defendants are currently being held at the Calcasieu Correctional Center, said Dugas. 

The case will be assigned to Judge David Ritchie, Division E.
